BGO Software from Bulgaria explores the Republic of Korea’s dynamic digital health market with the EU Business Hub

Founded in 2008 in Bulgaria, BGO Software started as a boutique IT company with an ambitious vision: to become a global leader in digital solutions within just a few years. The company specialises in developing customised digital health platforms – from clinical trial management to data integration tools. This solution helps healthcare innovators accelerate research, meet regulatory requirements, and deliver better patient outcomes.

From the outset, the company knew it wanted to use technology to improve people’s lives, and the healthcare sector was the natural home for this mission. “We believe the future of healthcare is digital,” explains Dimitar Dikov, Ph.D. Eng., COO of BGO Software. “Our focus has always been on bridging technology, compliance, and efficiency – helping innovators transform ideas into solutions that truly change the world.”

Today, BGO Software is a trusted technology partner for the UK Department of Health, two of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, research organisations, and numerous medtech SMEs.

Entering a fast-moving Asian market

BGO Software’s growth strategy follows two parallel tracks. In Europe, the company continues to strengthen its partnerships and invest in its team’s expertise. At the same time, BGO Software has long been looking eastward, recognising the enormous opportunities on the Asian market. The Republic of Korea stood out as a particularly promising destination: a market known for rapid adoption of new technologies, strong investment in healthcare, and high openness to international collaboration.

The EU Business Hub’s Healthcare and Medical Equipment Korea 2025 business mission to Seoul in March 2025 gave the company exactly the opportunity it needed. “This was the right moment to test our readiness, learn the local dynamics first-hand, and identify partners who share our vision,” notes Ivana Dragoeva, Operations Manager of BGO Software.

With the support of the programme’s representatives during the preparation phase, BGO Software entered the mission well-prepared, combining deep market knowledge with a schedule of high-value meetings tailored to its goals. Over the course of the week, the team showcased its capabilities, and even held a live demonstration with a Korean company. This encounter could evolve into BGO’s first collaboration in Asia.

Building connections for the long term

For BGO Software, the experience marked a milestone in its global expansion journey. The company is now building on the many connections made during the mission, with strong prospects for follow-up visits and long-term partnerships.

The EU Business Hub allowed us to see where we stand among European and Korean innovators,” reflects Dikov. “It gave us invaluable exposure, created new business connections, and showed us the specific efforts needed to succeed in Asia. We are convinced this is just the beginning of our story in the region.”

In addition to the matchmaking outcomes and planned meetings, the mission also created unique opportunities. During the official EU networking dinner, BGO Software was invited by H.E. Peter Kraychev, Ambassador of Bulgaria to the Republic of Korea, and Ivan Dekov, Head of Trade Affairs at the Bulgarian Embassy, to discuss bilateral opportunities and the state of the Korean market. These exchanges highlighted the broader diplomatic and economic context in which European businesses operate, strengthening BGO’s confidence in pursuing its international ambitions.

Looking ahead, BGO Software plans to return to the Republic of Korea to deepen discussions and further explore opportunities in the fast-growing digital healthcare sector. With its blend of technical expertise and commitment to innovation, the company is ready to bring European excellence to one of the world’s most dynamic markets.
